Sir Andrew Wiles FRS: talk and unveiling plaque

Thursday 16th May 7:30 pm

It was at Milton Road Library in the 1960s that Sir Andrew Wiles, born in Cambridge and then 10 years old, came across the problem of Fermat’s Last Theorem which had puzzled mathematicians for over three centuries.  In 1994 he proved the theorem to wide acclaim, making front page headlines worldwide.  For this he was later awarded the Copley medal from the Royal Society and the Abel Prize, similar to the Nobel Prize, from Norway.

Friends of Milton Road Library now cordially invite you to the unveiling of a plaque to name the ‘Andrew Wiles’ Room at the Library by Dr Christie Marr of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, University of Cambridge.

Book your free ticket on Eventbrite here, or just come along.

Pictures taken at the unveiling event on May 16th.
