Community Sponsorship is a little-known government scheme that allows community groups to welcome refugee families arriving in the UK via a so-called ‘safe and legal route’. Nicky Webb and Ruth Sapsed set up Resettle Chesterton after hearing about the scheme and have worked with friends and neighbours to support a family of five from Iraq, who arrived in the UK in January.

Nicky will talk about the challenges and joys they’ve encountered over the past two years, how they found accommodation, raised funds, and helped the family navigate complex health referrals and find school places, begin to learn English and even learn to ride a bike.
