A club of their own: Cambridge University women’s societies & associations

Wednesday 12th February 2020 @ 7:30 pm - 8:45 pm

Kathleen Lyttelton

Dr Ann Kennedy Smith is an author and biographer will be giving a talk on Cambridge University women’s societies & associations 1883-1914.
About this Event

Cambridge 1883 -1914 saw several influential women-led groups springing up, begun by the University’s first academic wives. These included the philanthropic Cambridge Association for the Care of Girls (1883); the Cambridge Women’s Suffrage Association (1884); the Cambridge Ladies’ Discussion Society (1886) and the exclusive Ladies’ Dining Society (1890) with just twelve members.

Come and find out about how these associations brought “town and gown” women together at a time when the University was a very traditional, all-male world.
