Evening Talk by Mary Joannou: ‘A Summer School of their Own’: The Newnham College Summer School for Working Women 1922-1950.

A presentation centred on the summer schools for working women run by Newnham College and the Workers’ Educational Association. Drawing on the voices,  letters and  personal testimonies  of factory workers, domestic servants and seamstresses, the talk will piece together a fascinating story of women’s, creativity, aspirations and achievements.  Mary Joannou is an Emerita Professor at Anglia Ruskin University attached to the Labour History Research Unit.

Tickets are free to current members of the Friends of Milton Road Library and £3 per person to non-members (payable on the door).
